17th Jan.1999
By Tony Swain
Casting was in one of the fields used by the Waymouth Casting Club (run by Andy Holland) within the Maiden Castle area just outside Dorchester.
The field was apalling, being water logged in places with mud 6 inches deep mid way across the court.
The wind direction was SW about 20 mph all day, staying in court or 'there abouts' all day.
In all about 30 casters turned up dispite the cold conditions and being Cod season. Casters used all of the weight catagories under UKSF rules: 125 gram ( 0.28 mm line), 150 gram ( 0.35 mm line) and 175 gram (0.35 mm line).
Three casters travelled from the Isle of Weight ( Bennett, Jackson and Jarvis ) and several from Cornwall. The standard of casting was very high indeed with approximately 12 people over 250 yds.
I did not cast well, more practice required me thinks when the weather is better...

Venue: South Wales ( Pen Coed )
The comps are open to all and are run under the Sea Angler rules NOT UKSF rules.
The difference being that Sea Angler does not allow the use of 0.28 mm main line only 0.35mm allowed.
Weather: The mist cleared about an hour before the casting started and there was no wind at all during the morning. As the day went on a sea breeze sprung up across court which picked up as the day went on reducing distances considerably.

UKSF Grand Prix results for 18th April 1999.
Jeff Hayward
This year the rules show a change from the longest cast with any weight winning the tournament to a new format.
There is now a season long British Championship, which will be used as a ranking event for selection to the International Team.
Competitors are allowed to compete in three events i.e., 125 gram, 150 gram and 175 gram weight categories; but they will only be able to have a maximum of six attempts in any one weight category. Finishing positions will be calculated by the addition of the longest casts made in two weight events. Running at the same time as the British Championship there will also be the UKSF Grand Prix champions and Masters Champion and will work with last years rulings i.e., the longest cast with either of the three weight events will be counted and the caster at each competition with the longest cast will both receive a trophy as Grand Prix champion and be awarded maximum points. These points are accrued throughout the Grand Prix and the top 40 competitors are invited to the UKSF Masters final to battle it out for the 1999 UKSF Masters title.
The Grand Prix dates are 18 April, 23rd May, 4th July and 22nd August with the Clubman's Final on 5th September and the Masters Final on 19th September, all held at Huntington Racecourse. UKSF are also running a two day International event on Saturday July 31st and Sunday 1st August at the Gainsborough Sports Centre, Ipswich. This is an opportunity to see the top casters from Britain the Europe, South Africa etc. compete of the two days.
