Found from the Mediterranean to the Baltic.
Additional Notes:
Similar to the Worm Pipefish but is proportionally much longer, has its eyes situated towards the gills and it has a longer bottom jaw.
The body is long and thin and covered with indistinct bony plates. Its colour is green/brown above fading to pale green below; females have blue lines along the ventral region. The head has a long, thin, round snout with a small mouth, the eyes are small and situated towards the gill covers. The dorsal fin is situated half way along the body, and the small pectorals are situated behind the gills. Caudal, pelvic and anal fins are absent. |
