UKSF Casting 1998
2/3May 1998 UKSF Casting Qualifiers
03.04.98
By Jeff Hayward
The event was 1st UKSF qualifier. There are 4 qualifying events, 1 a month,
each event gains the entrants points.
50 for 1st, 49 2nd, 48 3rd etc. After the 4 qualifiers, the top 40 accumulated
points scorers are able to take part in the final.
All the UKs this year will be held at Huntingdon racecourse Cambridgeshire, a change from last years venue the East of England showground at Peterborough.
The rules changed this year to allow the use of lighter line for 125g, 0.28mm minimum as opposed to 0.35mm for 150 & 175g.The light line is enabling casters to hit big distances and allowing more newfaces in the top 10. Because of the decrease in weight holding back the pendulum casters, longer rods are becoming more common , this produces a bigger arc and therefore increases in tip speed, Danny is using a 16 feet Kompressor Raptor to great effect, try using one of those on the beach!!!
UKSF at the weekend was once again dominated by THAT BELGIUM.Conditions were quite good. A fresh 15-20mph wind with gusts over 30mph,mostly in court but tending to favour the right side.
There are prizes at each event in the form of trophys and rods.
Sundays prizes were 1 x Zziplex Zero Plus, 1 x Zziplex ZF250, 1 x Zziplex
Powertex Bass for top 3 casters.
Overall there are trophys for top 3 in each weight 125,150 & 175g and
also Trophys for best newcomer (Steve Owers) and caster of the day Danny
Moeskops (Not surprising as he won all 3 weight categories AGAIN )
I`m unsure of prizes at the final not having been in one yet, but I think
there are prizes for lower places than the qualifiers. Results

UKSF Round 2
14.06.98
By Jeff Hayward
Generally it was a poor casting day, wind was at best in the far right of court and at times was a 90 degree cross wind, coupled with humid heavy air distances were down across the board.
Plenty of people spent the day cracking off probably down to conditions.Danny cracked off the first five rounds and was not a happy bunny flying rods and reels bore testament to this.
the overall results are attached and here are the results of the rest of the different caregories
125 g
1...Andy Green 226.45 m
2...Garry Blanchard 224.18 m
3...Peter Thain 220.53 m
150 g
1...Bradley Riseborough 225.73 m
2...David Vicary 221.89 m
3...Peter Thain 220.10 m
175 g
1...Danny Moeskops 241.30 m
2...David Vicary 236.70 m
3...Bradley Riseborough 233.70 m
Interesting to note that 175 g took top three places overall
Andy Green hit the centre line at over 220 m to take the centre line prize
Steve Owers was the farthest casting newcomer to take the newcomer prize, he also walked off with caster of the day for casting well with all three weights.

UKSF Round 3
05.07.98
By Jeff Hayward
Conditions for UK 3 were OK'ish wind was 10 - 15 or a little more but unfortunately out of court right all day.To have a chance of a big chuck you needed to be as far right as possible, the lower than expected distances were probably due to the side wind.
Danny was in better form winning by a country mile and not having the crack off problrms of UK2.
Nice to see 4 of the top 6 distances were with the bigger leads and .35 mm line but once again the majority of casters opted for the "freshwater" or "faggot" gear as we call it .28mm line and 125g leads.
Top three 175g chucks
Danny Moeskops 261.45m
David Vicary 244.04m
Neil Kelland 239.83m
150g
Bradley Riseborough 242.25m
Syd Burtcher 215.31m
Tony Foster 213.85m
125g
Danny Moeskops 253.00m
Andy Green 242.91m
Peter Thain 240.27m
Malcolm Greenwon centre line with 15cm
Dennis Retter took caster of the day for the best average with all 3 weights
Tony Jones hit a excellent 236.33 to take grade 2and Peter Neale grade 3 (I`ll find out next time what the different grades relate to) Best newcomer on the day was Rob Caley.

From what I can remember it was a frustrating day with the variable winds living up to the term `variable.`
Distances were a bit of a lottery, with the wind direction changing almost for every cast.
Once again Danny reigned supreme and put metres on the best of the rest.
The top 40 casters over the 4 grand prix have now been invited to the masters final, which will take place on 20th September, with the clubmans event, on the 6th September.

Once again big Danny did the business and kicked ass big time winning everything he was eligeble for.
Weather was a lottery again with conditions poor all day with the wind generally out of court to the left only occasionaly straightening enough to add distance to those fortunate few who were on the oche at the right time.
Must get down to sorting out the casting page with Tony I`ll give him a ring and sort out a day of nonstop computing.
